About SMSound India

Music distribution, built in India for artists who own their work

SMSound India is a music and video distribution platform run out of Kolkata, West Bengal. We exist for the independent artist, the small label, the producer with a back catalogue, and the songwriter who finally decided to release the album. We get your work onto Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and 150+ other stores — and just as importantly, we make sure every royalty stream the work generates actually finds its way back to you.

Why we exist

For a long time, releasing music in India meant signing away your masters, waiting months for a label to schedule you, or piecing together international distributors that did not understand the Indian music economy. JioSaavn, Gaana, and caller tunes — the platforms that actually pay Indian artists — were afterthoughts on every global tool.

SMSound India is the platform we wished existed: built around the way Indian music is actually consumed and monetised, but with the same global reach as the biggest distributors in the world. Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music — yes, of course. Jio Tunes, Airtel Hello Tunes, JioSaavn Pro caller tune integration, regional-language editorial tagging — yes, also.

What we actually do

At its core, SMSound India is a digital distribution and rights management platform. In one upload we:

  • Deliver your release to 150+ stores worldwide in their required DDEX formats, including all the Indian-language DSPs global distributors typically miss.
  • Issue globally-unique ISRC codes per recording and a UPC per release at no extra cost.
  • Submit your release for caller tune (CRBT) activation across Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL.
  • Register your master with YouTube Content ID so fan uploads are monetised, not lost.
  • Collect royalties monthly, apply applicable TDS, and pay out in INR to your Indian bank account (or PayPal / Payoneer for non-resident artists).
  • Guide your IPRS, PPL, and ISRA affiliations so the parts of music royalties we do not directly collect are not left on the table either.

What we believe

Artist-first

You keep 100% of your master rights and royalties. We are a service provider, not a label — your catalogue is always yours to move.

Transparent royalties

Every stream, every store, every territory — broken down in your dashboard. No hidden cuts, no opaque reporting cycles.

Rights you can prove

Globally unique ISRCs and UPCs on every release, clean copyright records, and Content ID registration so your work stays yours.

India-built for the world

Engineered around how Indian music actually monetises — JioSaavn, Gaana, caller tunes, regional languages — and ships everywhere else too.

Where we are

Our headquarters and operations team sit in Newtown, Kolkata — one of India's most active hubs for Bengali, Hindi, and pan-Indian music. Distribution and royalty reconciliation runs out of the same office. We are reachable by email, WhatsApp, and the contact form whenever you need us.
